Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed graduates,
On behalf of the faculty and staff, I am delighted to congratulate you on receiving your master's and doctoral degrees from Institute of Science Tokyo today.
This is a proud moment for you, your colleagues, supporters, and supervisors who have been with you on this journey.
Today marks the first autumn commencement ceremony for Science Tokyo, a new institution formed by the merger of Tokyo Medical and Dental University and Tokyo Institute of Technology.
You began your studies at these prestigious universities, and during your time there, they merged in a groundbreaking way that drew global attention. But what does this integration mean for each of you?
Whether you advance from a master's to a doctoral program, remain here for further research, or move on after receiving your degree today, Science Tokyo will serve as your academic hometown from now on. It will provide a robust foundation to support your ongoing research and future endeavors.
Science Tokyo's mission is to "advance science and human wellbeing to create value for and with society."
There are many pathways to advancing science. Science Tokyo is in the process of establishing a system to enable interdisciplinary research and social implementation through what we are calling Visionary Initiatives, VI, vision-driven research organizations. Through these VI, Science Tokyo will lead the way to pioneering innovations, and we hope you will join us as we strive to create a better future.
The knowledge, skills, and experiences you have gained at Science Tokyo are invaluable assets. So are the connections you have made, your human network, which will serve you well beyond anything generative AI could produce.
The future I mentioned starts today. What is your vision for it? Whatever you hope to achieve, remember that Science Tokyo is your academic hometown. Its name may have changed, but it will always be here for you, ready to support your aspirations.
