FAQs about giving and Science Tokyo Fund

For donations from overseas, we kindly ask for payment via credit card. If you wish to make a payment through international bank transfer or
by sending a payment request form, please contact the Community Engagement Division directly at fund@adm.isct.ac.jp for individual assistance.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept direct cash donations at this time.

For Japanese tax payers, Both individual and corporate donations are tax-deductible. When donating from overseas, please consult with local tax authorities or advisors. For more details, please see Tax benefits.

At the discretion of each tax office in Japan, donations made before the end of December of the year of admission may fall within the scope of “donations for school admission” for tax purposes, and therefore may be excluded from income tax deductions. Please check with the Income Tax Division of the National Tax Agency in your area. Donations made after January of the year following the year of admission are deductible for income tax purposes.

Receipts will be sent to donors by the end of the second month following the date of their donations.
Receipts for donations made through the Science Tokyo Supporters Membership Program will be sent out as follows:

For monthly or biannual donations
A receipt for total donations in a particular year will be issued on December 15 and sent out by the end of January the following year.

For annual donations
A receipt for the first donation will be issued on the date of the donation. Receipts for subsequent donations will be dated June 15 and sent out in early July.

Yes, receipts can be reissued. Reissued receipts will be marked with a “Reissued” stamp.

Donor benefits include the following:

Invitation to Gathering of Gratitude
All donors who give between August 1 and July 31 the following year are invited to the Gathering of Gratitude hosted by the president and CEO of Science Tokyo.

Installation of engraved plates
Individuals who donate a cumulative total of JPY 300,000 or more and corporations that donate a cumulative total of JPY 1 million or more may have a plate engraved with their name installed on campus. Note: Prior donations to the former Tokyo Medical and Dental University Fund and the former Tokyo Institute of Technology Fund will not count toward this cumulative total.

Nomination for Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon
If they wish to be considered as recipients, individuals who donate JPY 5 million or more and corporations that donate JPY 10 million or more will be nominated for the Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon by Science Tokyo. For more details, see Donor benefits.

If the expiration date of your registered credit card has been renewed, you will need to update your credit card information yourself on the Science Tokyo Fund site. Go to “Science Tokyo Supporters Membership Program: Change or cancel your membership” to change your payment details. You will need to login with your ID and password.
