Collaborating with industry
Aiming to solve social issues
Open to innovation: creating innovations together (partnerships for building the future)
Science Tokyo sees the formation of strong partnerships with various stakeholders, including businesses, startups, and government, as essential for solving social issues and creating innovative solutions. It promotes new approaches and initiatives that go beyond existing frameworks of industry-academia collaboration by keenly responding to societal changes and needs.
Science Tokyo's approach
Science Tokyo offers various menus of collaboration for companies interested in working with our faculty and researchers, tailored to the desired level of partnership.
Exploring collaboration
Companies explore Science Tokyo's potential, innovation needs, clinical needs, intellectual property, and startups, engaging in initial contacts and information exchanges.
Example
Individual research collaboration
Stage to confirm the effectiveness and compatibility of collaboration through initial and trial partnerships.
Example
Large-scale collaboration
Stage for engaging in long-term and organization-level joint research, development, and implementation of results.
Example
Example of activities: nucleic acid drug discovery
Nucleic acid drug discovery, mRNA drugs, peptide drugs, and other medium-molecule drug discoveries, special delivery technologies, and structural design technologies using cryo-electron microscopy are brought together. By integrating technologies from medical and engineering research, we are advancing medium-molecule targeted drug discovery for intractable common diseases such as infectious diseases, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer, as well as promoting "N-of-1" drug discovery research for rare diseases and patients with intractable diseases.
Example of activities: Komatsu Innovation Technology Co-Creation Research Institute
As the first collaborative research hub, the Komatsu Innovation Technology Co-Creation Research Institute has been established, and Komatsu and Science Tokyo are collaborating in a wide range of fields on an organizational basis. This hub is continually being enhanced, focusing on tribology (the science of friction, lubrication, and wear) and thermal management technologies, advancing research and development for improving the efficiency and electrification of construction machinery, aiming for carbon neutrality in construction and mining sites.
For those wishing for industry-academia collaboration
By implementing university knowledge with the industry, we contribute to the advancement of the industry and society, realizing a virtuous cycle between our university and society.
For startups and ventures
We provide continuous support and business for the creation and growth of startup companies, realizing the formation of a startup ecosystem and returning the educational and research outcomes of the new university to society.
