Resilience-Tech Society PD:Shinjiro Kanae

Japan has long faced a wide range of natural hazards. In addition to earthquakes and tsunamis, water-related risks such as floods and droughts associated with climate change are becoming increasingly severe. At the same time, the crises that threaten our lives are growing more diverse and complex, including the spread of infectious diseases and disruptions to social systems. What is needed now is an all-hazards perspective that addresses not only disasters and infectious diseases, but a full range of crises. By bringing knowledge together across disciplines and borders, we must build systems that protect people’s lives and livelihoods. Through the Visionary Initiatives, we aim to turn the seeds of basic research into strengths for society and work toward a resilient society with a vision extending 1,000 years into the future.
