October 6, 2026

The 2026 Fall Graduation Ceremony for all Science Tokyo students was held on September 24 on Ookayama Campus. A total of 536 degrees — 168 doctoral degrees, 262 master's degrees, 9 professional master's degrees, and 97 bachelor's degrees — were conferred.

Joining the graduates and their loved ones at the celebration were the Institute's Members of the Board, auditors, and deans and directors.

President and Chief Academic Officer (CAO) Yujiro Tanaka began with his congratulatory speech. While expressing hope that the cohort’s combined knowledge of science, engineering, and the medical and dental sciences would contribute to solving social issues, Tanaka called on each graduate to make the most of their abilities in their respective fields and support the progress of Science Tokyo as a University for International Research Excellence. He emphasized the importance of honing one’s ability to make independent judgments even in a rapidly changing era, and of realizing coexistence and creativity through dialogue with people who hold diverse values. “Meaningful dialogue rests on two things — equity and mutual respect,” Tanaka stated.

During his congratulatory address, Ohtake encouraged the latest Science Tokyo graduates to explore their experiences with contingency. "You will find ideas that resemble and differ from your own. However, by embracing these ideas, reflecting on them, and giving them meaning through your eyes, you will grow significantly." he said.

After the speeches by Tanaka and Ohtake, degrees were presented to representatives of each cohort of graduating students. To conclude the ceremony, Jiakan Yu, a doctoral program graduate from the Department of Innovation Science, gave a brief address of gratitude on behalf of his fellow graduates. “The degree we receive today shows what we have done, but its true value will be shown by what we do next,” he stated.
