Mission of the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning
The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) was established in April 2015 as a university-wide organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning at Institute of Science Tokyo.
CITL supports the educational activities of faculty, staff, and teaching assistants (TAs) and promotes educational innovation and the development of effective learning environments across the Institute. In collaboration with faculty and staff members from various departments, the Center carries out its activities through two offices:
Office of Higher Education Development
The Office of Higher Education Development supports faculty, staff, and teaching assistants (TAs) in developing and enhancing their teaching capabilities. It plans and offers a wide range of seminars, workshops, and training programs tailored to the needs of different members of the Institute. In addition to supporting individual professional development, the Office conducts research on effective teaching and learning practices and disseminates its findings across the Institute.
Office of Advanced Technology Applications
The Office of Advanced Technology Applications promotes the development and effective use of technology-enhanced teaching and learning environments. Its activities include supporting educational systems, developing and distributing online learning materials, and analyzing their use. The Office also explores and promotes the educational applications of emerging technologies, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI).
Message from Director
Through close collaboration between these two offices and with members of the wider Institute community, CITL seeks to connect advances in teaching practice with emerging technologies and contribute to the continuous improvement and innovation of education at Institute of Science Tokyo.
We appreciate the continued support and collaboration of faculty and staff across the Institute as we work together to create engaging and effective learning environments for our students.

Office of Higher Education Development Projects
Learning Assistant Initiative (LAI)
The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) has developed the "Preparing Future Faculty and Professionals (PFFP)" program for master's and doctoral students who work as teaching assistants (TAs). The university's mid-term plan also specifies the establishment of a training system that all doctoral students who become teaching assistants must complete, and the launch of that training. The PFFP program is a training program through which graduate students learn knowledge and skills related to university education, with the aim of promoting the development of graduate students' teaching abilities. CITL is responsible for TA training for graduate students and university-wide TA training programs.

University-Wide Online Education Support
Using an on-campus recording studio, CITL handles the recording of online classes and the filming of promotional videos for open campus events. It also carries out technology development for class support using AI and VR. CITL promotes the development of an educational environment originating from our university, which has been designated a University for International Research Excellence, and works to improve the quality of education.

Activities
University-Wide FD
University-Wide FD (Faculty Development) consists of training sessions in which faculty and staff learn knowledge and skills related to education, aimed at improving the quality of education at our university.
Education Innovation Symposium
The Education Innovation Symposium is a forum for introducing educational innovation initiatives that address challenges in university education. Education stakeholders from both inside and outside the university gather to discuss ways to improve the quality of education.
Education Enhancement Cycle Grant (EdCycle Grant)
Science Tokyo has been implementing a continuous "Education Enhancement Cycle Grant" since the educational reforms launched in FY2016. Through a comprehensive process that encompasses the establishment of educational objectives, planning, implementation, verification and evaluation, as well as subsequent review and improvement, the university continuously enhances the quality of its education.
Annual Report
