Suzukake Science Day 2026 will take place on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17 at Yokohama Campus.
Building upon last year’s success, there will be a series of lectures alongside active participation from more than 40 laboratories, offering face-to-face experiences. These labs will open their doors to showcase Science Tokyo’s pioneering research spanning diverse fields such as materials science, common diseases, microorganisms, as well as AI and interfaces.
Suzukakedai Library and supercomputer TSUBAME4.0 will also be open to all, and various activities are planned throughout the two days, including student’s performances, engaging experiment sessions for children, food stalls, hands-on event by Faculty of Dentistry and other entertainment.
Simultaneously, an open campus will run alongside the event, featuring informative sessions covering science and engineering graduate schools and specialized sessions for individual schools. Attendees can look forward to talks by Science Tokyo students, offering valuable insights into campus life and academic pursuits. Particularly, School of Life Science and Technology will host an information session tailored for prospective undergraduates, presenting an ideal opportunity for those considering studying at Science Tokyo and individuals seeking a glimpse into campus life.
Join us to experience the forefront of scientific exploration and technological advancement at Suzukake Science Day!
Suzukake Science Day 2026 Lectures
The lectures can be attended in person.
Turning Institute of Science Tokyo into a “Firefly Village”!
Date:Saturday, May 16
Time:12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Venue:S8 Bldg, Lecture Hall, 1 Fl.
Once known as a “firefly village,” present-day Yokohama Campus sits in a lush valley with plenty of spring water. Hiroichi Yanase, professor from the Institute for Liberal Arts, and Masayuki Yamamura, a professor emeritus of Science Tokyo and currently a professor at Higashi Nippon International University, will share the behind-the-scenes story of how they used shovels to shape rivers and fields to recreate a suitable habitat for fireflies to glow once again.
Development of Technology to Support Swallowing Rehabilitation: A Medical–Engineering Collaboration Addressing the Shortage of Speech-Language-Hearing Therapists
Date:Saturday, May 17
Time:1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Venue:S8 Bldg, Lecture Hall, 1 Fl.
Research of Science and Technology, will join Tomoko Sakai, associate professor from the Rehabilitation Center in the Science Tokyo Hospital’s Division of Integrated Facilities, to introduce their work developing a swallowing support system. Integrating rehabilitation medicine with engineering, this system is designed to complement and expand the treatment abilities of speech-language-hearing therapists.
Through this example, they hope to illustrate how issues that emerge from medical settings can become the starting point for new technological innovation. They will also highlight how medical‑engineering collaboration specifically can help treat individuals who experience difficulties eating, drawing on the latest trends in generative AI technologies to show how clinical needs are translated into engineering challenges and ultimately shaped into practical applications.
Collaborative events with the Faculty of Dentistry
The “Let's Take Pictures of Tooth Models!” event returns this year on Saturday, May 16, in collaboration with the School of Dentistry, whose faculty and students will lead the activity. Anyone thinking about studying dentistry at Science Tokyo is especially welcome.
Let’s Take Pictures of Tooth Models!
Date:Saturday, May 16
Time:10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Venue:J2-J3 Bldg, Communication space, 20 Fl.
This is an experience of scanning a tooth model using a dental and intraoral scanner (a machine that takes a dental mold), which is performed at Institute of Science Tokyo Hospital (Division of Clinical Dentistry).
