Entrepreneurship education at Science Tokyo

In the current era of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA), society faces complex challenges related to globalization, the environment, and security due to the rapid development of science and technology. Achieving success in such an era demands not only a foundation of expertise in a given field, but also the mindset and skills to create and develop new value, and then implement that value in the real world. Science Tokyo defines such actions based on one’s own initiative as "entrepreneurship."

Specialized education, liberal arts education, and entrepreneurship education make up the three pillars of education in the science and engineering fields at Science Tokyo. In academic year 2024, the Center for Entrepreneurship Education began offering courses to all students in the science and engineering fields designed to help them develop an entrepreneurial mindset and relevant skills. Over 110 entrepreneurship courses, from the undergraduate to the doctoral level, help students cultivate five core elements of entrepreneurship: foresight, global competencies, leadership, value creation, and career development. Many other courses offered by the Institute also teach skills invaluable to future entrepreneurs.

Students in the science and engineering fields who enrolled in Science Tokyo undergraduate programs in or after the 2024 academic year are strongly encouraged to take entrepreneurship courses. These courses are a requirement for graduate students to complete their degree programs.
