Suspected personal information leak due to unauthorized access to Science Tokyo’s information infrastructure — First notification

Science Tokyo has recently confirmed unauthorized third-party access to its information infrastructure, and there is a possibility that personal information has been compromised. The Institute sincerely apologizes for the concern and inconvenience this may have caused.

The Information Security Incident Response Team was established on August 28 to coordinate an Institute-wide response, and Science Tokyo is working with relevant authorities to contain the situation and prevent further damage.

The information suspected to be affected includes personal data — such as names, addresses, and email addresses — of current Science Tokyo members, including students, faculty, and staff, and those affiliated with Tokyo Institute of Technology and Tokyo Medical and Dental University around the time of the merger. The full scope and details are still under investigation, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

As of now, no information leaks regarding patients at Institute of Science Tokyo Hospital have been confirmed.

Leaked information can potentially be misused to send fraudulent emails or messages that impersonate Science Tokyo or its affiliated organizations and pressure recipients into taking immediate action. Do not click on links in emails you do not recognize, or enter passwords or authentication codes.

Science Tokyo is also notifying current students, faculty, and staff of this incident via Slack and other internal communications channels.
