Science Tokyo creates seven faculty positions for women in academic year 2026
Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo) has created seven new positions for female assistant professors, associate professors, or professors in academic year 2026 — one at each of its science and engineering-related Schools and Institutes.
This positive action, based on Article 8 of the Act on Securing, Etc. of Equal Opportunity and Treatment between Men and Women in Employment (Equal Employment Opportunity Act), encourages women — a group that remains under-represented among science and engineering faculty members at Science Tokyo — to join the community, identify and solve global issues, and create a better, brighter future together.
The female faculty initiative continues for a fifth consecutive year after its launch by Science Tokyo’s predecessor university in academic year 2022.
For more details on the latest positions, see the Science and Engineering field Employment Opportunities page.
Message from Naoto Ohtake, Science Tokyo president and chief executive officer
A more diverse Science Tokyo bringing together world-leading knowledge
Science Tokyo, founded in October 2024, was accredited as a University for International Research Excellence by the Japanese government in January 2026. This accreditation serves as a testament to the recognition of the Institute’s world-leading research capabilities and its role in driving transformations that shape the future of humanity. Science Tokyo’s aim is to deepen existing knowledge, but also to bring together members of diverse backgrounds and values who, through dialogue, tackle uncharted territories and consolidate new, world-leading knowledge.
The key to unlocking this grand challenge is diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). An environment where different forms of knowledge intersect serves as the foundation for generating innovation that transcends existing frameworks. Science Tokyo aims to bring this diverse knowledge together to realize a better, brighter future.
Amid its efforts to promote DEI among its constituents, Science Tokyo has again created seven positions for female faculty members in its science and engineering-related Schools and Institutes in academic year 2026.
The innovative thinkers who fill these positions will play an active role at the Institute, engaging in research and education that surpass boundaries and pave the way for the future. I hope they will also participate in university governance while exploring ways to foster an environment where diverse talent can truly thrive.
Science Tokyo is constantly revamping its campuses and boosting support for international community members to create a more inclusive environment for everyone. The Institute is enhancing awareness through efforts such as unconscious bias workshops for faculty and staff, and implementing management reforms to ensure that diversity is appropriately recognized and valued.
We look forward to receiving applications from researchers who want to work in a world-class research environment while creating value for and with society.
