Spring Graduation Ceremonies AY 2025
Graduation: 1,289 undergraduate and 2,107 graduate students
Science Tokyo’s Spring Graduation Ceremonies for academic year 2025 were held on March 26, 2026, at Ookayama and Yushima Campuses. Bachelor's degree recipients were acknowledged in the morning, while master's and doctoral graduates were honored in the afternoon.
Degrees were conferred simultaneously at Ookayama Campus and Yushima Campus with a live broadcast connecting the two locations. While fostering a sense of unity, this approach allowed graduates and postgraduates from both the science and engineering fields and the medical and dental sciences fields to celebrate their past achievements and new beginnings simultaneously.
This spring, Science Tokyo conferred 372 doctoral degrees, 1,709 master's degrees, 26 professional master's degrees, and 1,289 bachelor's degrees. Joining the graduates at the celebrations were President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Naoto Ohtake, President and Chief Academic Officer (CAO) Yujiro Tanaka, the Institute’s executive vice presidents, deans and directors, auditors, as well as special guests.
Tanaka kicked things off with a congratulatory address. He emphasized the importance of intellectual curiosity in navigating an era of change, and encouraged the graduates to apply what they have learned to bridge scientific progress and human wellbeing.
While offering warm congratulatory words of his own, Ohtake invited the latest Science Tokyo graduates to utilize their knowledge, power, and skills for the better. "What can you do to enhance the lives of others, strengthen collective global society, or preserve the beautiful planet that we all inhabit?" he asked.
Next, degrees were presented to representatives of each cohort of graduating students. At the ceremony for bachelor's degree recipients, students with outstanding academic achievements received the 2025 Institute of Science Tokyo Excellent Student Award from Tanaka.
Guest speakers were also present at both ceremonies. On Ookayama Campus, President Kiyoto Ido (Class of 1972, Mathematics) of Science Tokyo's alumni association for the science and engineering fields shared his thoughts with the bachelor's degree recipients. On Yushima Campus, Chairman Masaki Asano (Class of 1972, Dentistry) of Science Tokyo's alumni association for the medical and dental sciences spoke to the master’s and doctoral graduates.
The valedictorians for each cohort also offered messages of gratitude and hope to the Science Tokyo community. Mingda Liu, a Mathematical and Computing Science graduate, spoke in the morning. Gen Hikosaka, a doctoral graduate in Materials Science and Engineering, spoke in the afternoon.
To wrap up the morning event, Riku Koda, a current Chemistry student, gave a short farewell speech on behalf of the current students in the morning. Apakorn Kengkanna, a doctoral program student in Computer Science, offered words of encouragement and admiration to the graduates in the afternoon ceremony.
The Science Tokyo community wishes all the newest graduates continued health and success.
Note: Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) and Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) merged on October 1, 2024, to form Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo).
