Science Tokyo’s AY 2026 Spring Entrance Ceremonies were held on April 2, 2026, on Ookayama Campus. New bachelor's program students were welcomed into the community in the morning, while master's and doctoral program students were celebrated in the afternoon.
This April, 1,461 bachelor's program students, 1,848 master's program students, 25 professional master's program students, and 603 doctoral program students were admitted to the Institute. Of these students, 479 joined Science Tokyo from abroad.
Joining the students and their loved ones at the ceremonies were President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Naoto Ohtake, President and Chief Academic Officer (CAO) Yujiro Tanaka, other Members of the Board, and deans and directors. Speaking at the morning ceremony as a special guest was Akiko Matsumoto (Class of 1996, Neurology and Neurological Science, Tokyo Medical and Dental University), a professor at the Jikei University School of Medicine. The afternoon ceremony welcomed Nobuhiro Endo (Class of 1980, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology), an executive advisor at NEC Corporation, as a special guest.
At both events, Tanaka kicked things off with welcome address. He reminded Science Tokyo’s new students to recognize the relationships that have shaped their lives, emphasizing that “no one grows alone.” He also encouraged the students to engage with different ways of thinking, bridge knowledge across disciplines, and focus on creating new value in a way that connects the advancement of science and human wellbeing.
Next, Ohtake offered his congratulations, highlighting the strong sense of Science Tokyo community and commitment to the new students. "I want to assure you that, starting from today, you are all part of a diverse, inclusive community. We are all here to support you, regardless of the path that has brought you here," he said.
After the introduction of the Members of the Board, deans and directors, and special guests, a student representative spoke on behalf of their cohort at each ceremony. In the morning, Ryo Ikehata from the School of Environment and Society delivered a message on behalf of other bachelor's program students. In the afternoon, Ricardo from the Department of AI Systems Medicine at the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences shared his words on behalf of fellow master's and doctoral students. Both student representatives shared their aspirations for their upcoming student life at Science Tokyo.
Congratulations to all the new students of the Institute, and welcome to the Science Tokyo community.
