President of National Research Council of Italy and delegation visit Science Tokyo
On October 4, a delegation led by Professor Maria Chiara Carrozza, President of the National Research Council (CNR) of Italy (7th from right), Gianluigi Benedetti, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Japan (6th from right), and Professor Eugenio Guglielmelli, Rector of Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma (UCBM) (7th from left), visited Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo). They met with Naoto Ohtake, President and CEO (5th from right), Yujiro Tanaka, President and CAO (6th from left), Tomohiro Morio, Executive Vice President for Global Affairs (5th from left), Jun-ichi Takada, Executive Vice President for Global Affairs (4th from left), Satoshi Furukawa, Executive Vice President for Institute Strategy (3rd from left), Nobuhiro Hayashi, Vice President for International Strategy and Engagement (1st from left), Patrick Foss, Vice President for International Strategy and Internationalization (2nd from left), and Hideo Morita, Deputy Head for Planning Strategy Division.

This was the first opportunity for Science Tokyo to host a delegation from abroad since its establishment on October 1.
At the meeting, Science Tokyo introduced the history of the former Tokyo Medical and Dental University and former Tokyo Institute of Technology, as well as the missions and organizational structure of both institutions after the merger. This was followed by an overview of CNR and UCBM by the delegation.
Next, Prof. Carrozza proposed a school-to-school agreement between Science Tokyo and CNR, which was followed by a positive discussion.

Science Tokyo and Italian universities have strong connections through various study abroad programs and consortium activities, including short-term exchange programs. In addition to these existing collaborations, new exchanges with CNR, as well as with UCBM through the newly launched Global Consortium for Medical Engineering Collaboration, led by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), are expected to further strengthen these ties.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to ongoing collaboration between the two organizations, as national research institutes in countries facing the shared challenge of a super-aging society.
