President and Chief Executive Officer Naoto Ohtake visits the University of the Philippines and Science Tokyo’s Philippines Office

From February 25 to 26, Naoto Ohtake, president and CEO of Science Tokyo, visited the Republic of the Philippines to reaffirm academic partnerships in the region. The trip included a formal visit to the University of the Philippines and Science Tokyo’s Philippines Office based at De La Salle University.
The first stop was at the University of the Philippines, a long-standing institutional partner of Science Tokyo. President and CEO Ohtake was warmly welcomed by President Angelo Jimenez, Vice President Leo Cubillan, Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan and Chancellor Michael Tee from the Diliman and Manila campuses, respectively, as well as deans from departments engaged in joint research with Science Tokyo and alumni. During the visit, President and CEO Ohtake introduced Science Tokyo and engaged in in-depth discussions on future possibilities for collaboration.

The following day, President and CEO Ohtake visited De La Salle University and met with President Bernard Oca and Provost Robert Roleda. Their conversation built upon a recent encounter during the Asian Universities Science and Technology Innovation Forum. The three leaders shared updates on recent institutional developments and reaffirmed a commitment to continued collaboration, especially in academic exchange and joint initiatives between students and researchers.

The visit concluded with an inspection of Science Tokyo’s Philippines Office, established in 2005 under a collaboration agreement between the former Tokyo Institute of Technology and De La Salle University. President and CEO Ohtake toured the facilities and sat down for a discussion with Mr. Ronald Gallardo, adviser to the Philippines Office, and other stakeholders. The discussion focused on expanding the office's role in supporting student and faculty exchanges, and the continued development of the Philippine Kuramae Alumni Association (ATTARS). President and CEO Ohtake also expressed his sincere appreciation for ATTARS’ longstanding support and encouraged their involvement in promoting the vision of Science Tokyo across the region.

Though brief, the visit will likely have a lasting impact. It reinforced the Philippines as one of Science Tokyo’s key partners in Asia. Through meaningful exchanges with faculty, researchers, and alumni, the trip underscored the strength of ongoing relationships and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.
