Reasons for choosing Tokyo Tech
I chose to join Tokyo Tech after being introduced to a professor who later became my PhD advisor. Upon researching Tokyo Tech and its laboratories, I realized that both the academic standards and the research environment were of exceptional quality, making it the ideal place to pursue my goals.
What I was most passionate about
While I was deeply passionate about my own research topic, what truly inspired me was the collective energy of the laboratory. Engaging with the diverse and high-level research of my peers created a highly motivating atmosphere where we constantly pushed each other to excel.
My most significant learning experience or memory
My most memorable experience was our annual laboratory retreat. Spending time together away from the campus allowed the entire team to recharge, strengthen our bonds, and return to our research with a renewed sense of cohesion and shared purpose.
What I liked best about Tokyo Tech
What I valued most was the outstanding quality of the laboratory equipment, which provided a world-class research infrastructure that I still miss today. Additionally, the guidance from the professors and assistant professors was exceptional; they maintained rigorous standards while offering insightful advice that significantly shaped my development.
Current activities and career
I am currently an R&D Project Manager specializing in copper and nickel metallurgy. My role involves managing two to three major research projects annually and delivering around ten technical expertises to factories of the group. Additionally, I maintain and develop our research center's testing capabilities while supervising students through internship.
How my studies at Tokyo Tech have contributed to my career
Beyond scientific expertise, Tokyo Tech taught me to manage a complex three-year project from inception to final delivery, a skill highly valued in French R&D centers. Furthermore, I continuously apply the rigorous methodologies I acquired at Tokyo Tech in my daily operations, frequently sharing them with my colleagues. Experiencing this cross-cultural scientific approach significantly enhanced my project management efficiency.
Message to prospective students
If I had to give one advice to prospective students, it is to dare. Too many people hold themselves back out of hesitation, which is a missed opportunity. Stepping out of your comfort zone opens doors you cannot even imagine. And what is the worst that can happen? You do not fail; you simply learn what does not work and move forward. Science Tokyo offers an incredible environment in terms of academics, infrastructure, and mentorship. I highly recommend this university, as the years I spent there continue to guide my career today.
