Dean of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine and delegation visit Institute of Science Tokyo

On November 18, Dr. Mark Cohen, Dean of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine (CI MED), Dr. Gregory Polites, Executive Vice Dean of CI MED, and Dr. Erica Person, Professor of Ophthalmology at CI MED visited Institute of Science Tokyo to discuss potential research and student exchange opportunities as well as share the latest updates on the Global Consortium of Innovation and Engineering in Medicine.

After Executive Vice President for Global Affairs Tomohiro Morio officially opened the meeting, Professor Fumihiko Ishikawa, Professor Masashi Ikeuchi, Professor Ichiro Sekiya, and Associate Professor Masanori Tokunaga presented their research and discussed potential research collaborations with Dr. Cohen and Dr. Polites. Professor Shigeru Oshima and other faculty members from Science Tokyo also participated. A discussion on student exchange followed, led by Junior Associate Professor Hisanori Hasegawa, and included contributions from Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Shuji Tohda, Vice President for Convergence Science Education Masanaga Yamawaki, Vice President for Educational Strategy Keiichi Akita, Professor Naoko Seki, and Dean at the School of Life Science and Technology Susumu Kajiwara.

After President and CEO Naoto Ohtake and President and CAO Yujiro Tanaka joined the meeting, Dr. Cohen reported on progress concerning the Global Consortium of Innovation and Engineering in Medicine, of which Science Tokyo is a founding member. The signing of the consortium's membership agreement was then celebrated in a small ceremony.
Finally, during a lunch meeting in which students also participated, Science Tokyo and CI- MED representatives discussed a variety of additional ideas and possibilities for exchange.
