A Warm Welcome: S-TISA Hosts Science Tokyo’s Autumn Welcome Party

December 26, 2025

The 2025 S-TISA Autumn Welcome Party, organized and operated by the Science Tokyo International Student Association (S-TISA), was held on November 12, 2025. The event took place at Kuramae Hall in the Science Tokyo Front, with the cooperation of the Student Support Division.

The party was a highly international gathering, including over 200 new and current students, faculty, and staff from more than 30 countries.

At the beginning of the party, the new logo of S-TISA was unveiled. This was followed by a presentation detailing S-TISA's regular activities and providing information about the international student community.

Next, a Bingo game was held as an icebreaker. Through the game, participants from diverse backgrounds enjoyed conversations with one another. The winners were awarded Science Tokyo merchandise as prizes.

Next this, performances by two student clubs were presented.
The first performance was an acapella act from the Institute’s official A Cappella Club Ajiwai. This mixed group of international and Japanese students captivated all attendees with music produced solely by their voices.
The second performance featured a jazz rendition by the Modern Jazz Society. Their enchanting melodies created an atmosphere that was both calming and exciting, leaving the participants mesmerized.

Afterward, welcome speeches were given by Jun-ichi Takada, Executive Vice President for Global Affairs, and Kiyoto Ido, President of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association. Both speakers shared encouraging words with the new international students, leaving a deep impression on all of them.

Following the welcome speeches, all participants dined together. A variety of food options were provided by Tsubame Co-op, with special attention to participants' needs, including religious dietary restrictions (such as Halal) and food allergies. Enjoying good food together made the atmosphere more relaxed and fun, encouraging conversations and making the evening even more enjoyable.

Participating as Master of Ceremonies (MC) was a first-time experience for me and a huge challenge. I felt nervous and faced a lot of hardships during the event, but by working hard alongside my co-MC, Bhaskar, I was able to successfully complete the job.
Being the MC allowed me to look out over the entire venue from the stage. I could clearly see how much all the participants were enjoying themselves and truly felt new friendships blossoming.
This event could only have been accomplished through the support of S-TISA and the many dedicated volunteers. I feel fortunate that we achieved such a great success by uniting with people from diverse backgrounds.

The Autumn 2025 welcome party organized by S-TISA was a memorable evening. We had a fun time making new friends and catching up with old ones. The evening was a fiesta of new beginnings, truly encompassing the motto of S-TISA. There were two great performances from the acapella group and the jazz group. The jazz band really captivated me. The food was tasty, made even better by laughter and new friendships. I truly enjoyed every second of the evening and can't wait to have more such events.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved in the success of the 2025 Autumn Welcome Party, in particular the Student Support Division and Kuramae-kai alumni for their generous financial support and the S-TISA members and volunteers for their tireless work and coordination. Wishing all students and faculty members of Science Tokyo continued health and a fulfilling academic journey.

Another autumn, another welcome party goes by. It is refreshing to have something new at every event. This time around, having the jazz and the acapella groups perform was our main draw, alongside the Bingo game—which we can’t seem to stop—this time going with a chaotic team bingo format. I am glad that everything worked out in the end, and that we were able to learn several new things this time around as well.
Now that I think about it, I feel like I was somewhat nervous and tired, especially given how the performances were almost cancelled and how it was hard to manage the crowd at times. Thank you volunteers and staff for the groundwork, and you readers that are still reading all the way down here.
