Suzukakedai Campus to be renamed Yokohama Campus in April 2026
Science Tokyo’s Suzukakedai Campus will change its name to “Yokohama Campus” on April 1, 2026.
The roots of the name change can be traced back to March 17, 2021, when Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech), one of Science Tokyo’s predecessor universities, signed a comprehensive partnership agreement with the City of Yokohama. The goal of the agreement was to advance initiatives that aim to realize a prosperous future based on the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals, while boosting business development and international activities using mutual resources and networks.
The renaming of Suzukakedai Campus had been considered for some time following the 2021 agreement. The decision was solidified after Tokyo Medical and Dental University and Tokyo Tech merged to form Science Tokyo in October 2024, and campus and other developments commenced to reaffirm Science Tokyo as a center of international excellence in education and research.
Suzukakedai Campus, established in 1975, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025. After honoring this milestone, Science Tokyo will proudly continue to strengthen its research and educational activities, and ties with the local community, on the newly named Yokohama Campus from April 2026 onwards.
