Our visions of the future—ten years from now
Student project: Campus life report
The areas of expertise honed at institute of Science Tokyo are truly diverse. The students studying here each have their own unique visions of the future. Drawing strength from what they learn, they move one step closer to their dreams each day. Let’s take a glimpse at the “ten years from now” they envision.
Crossing borders to deliver the medical care people truly need
S.S. 3rd year, School of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine
Ten years ago, I dreamed of being an athlete in America!
In ten years, I hope to be on the front lines of healthcare in developing countries. Through public health studies on economic disparities at the Institute and volunteer work aimed at alleviating poverty, I was shocked to learn that there are many people in the world who cannot receive suitable medical care due to financial reasons. I realized the importance of advocating for policy not only through downstream activities but also upstream. I have a dream to address global issues and provide more equitable healthcare policies as a WHO staff member. Currently, I am focusing on gaining firsthand experience of local conditions through volunteer work and research and by analyzing the issues present there. I want to dedicate myself to my daily studies so that I can extend a helping hand to those who are struggling to receive suitable medical care.
I want to become an architect and create spaces that enrich everyday life through my own work
O.K. I want to live in a house I designed myself
Ten years ago, I dreamed of being a kindergarten teacher, a pharmacist, a baker, etc. I was full of curiosity and had many dreams for the future.
In ten years, I see myself working in structural design as a licensed architect. I developed an interest in the field of architecture because it is a career related to mathematics and physics, which I have loved since childhood. Architecture is a field that continues to be essential across time, as it is closely connected to people's lives. I believe architecture is an attractive profession because it allows one to continually refine one’s expertise and ultimately achieve mastery of technical skills. My dream is to live in a home that I have designed myself in the future. I get excited when I imagine spending my days immersed in my hobbies in a home that I love. In preparation for a future as a licensed architect, I am currently making steady efforts to build a strong academic foundation.
Become a medical technical officer who changes the future of medicine
B.Y. 1st year, School of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine
Ten years ago, I dreamed of being a teacher. I like teaching others. I also enjoyed spending time with young children.
To pursue my dream of becoming a medical technical officer, I believe that in ten years I will be gaining experience as a clinical physician, learning through trial and error while developing a firsthand understanding of the realities of healthcare. When I was in junior high school, I learned about this profession from a drama, and in my second year of high school, I became determined to pursue it because of a strong desire to protect people's happiness through healthcare. The primary reason for choosing Science Tokyo is because I was convinced it provides the best environment for medical and engineering collaboration. To address challenges in the medical field, collaboration with the engineering sector is indispensable. I believe that by combining the powers of medicine and engineering, we can solve many healthcare challenges, such as eliminating regional disparities through digital technologies. In the future, I aim to strengthen the relationship between medicine and engineering as a technical medical officer, ultimately saving many lives by introducing new technology and systems.
To be a researcher who shares the excitement of chemistry with many people
S.S. 3rd year, School of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine
Ten years ago, I dreamed of being an inventor. I always enjoyed coming up with new things that didn't exist in the world.
My future dream is to become a researcher who can share the excitement and usefulness of chemistry with many people. I envision myself ten years from now, continuing my research after completing graduate school. DuringIn research activities, Iyou may sometimes hit a wall. Even so, I think I will be able to spend each day cherishing the small pleasures and happiness. I realized my fascination with chemistry in the first year of high school. I want to solve everyday problems using the power of chemistry. For example, I've started thinking about developing technologies to circulate and reuse substances that are difficult to recycle. To achieve my dreams, I am currently focusing on studying foundational fields and completing my teacher training program.
Paving the way for an unseen future on the global stage
I.Y. 1st year, School of Engineering
Ten years ago, I dreamed of being an elementary school teacher, I admired teachers who seemed able to handle anything.
I imagine myself as a robotics engineer overseas in ten years. Since I was a child, I admired the cool robots that appeared in anime and movies. When I became a junior high school student, I developed an interest in foreign countries, where I can find many things I am unfamiliar with. These combined form my dream of working as a robotics engineer abroad. Furthermore, through diverse encounters since enrolling, I have been experiencing a shift in my values. This might serve as an opportunity for my current goals to become more refined or perhaps transform into a completely new dream. If that happens, I want to be flexible and choose the best goal for myself at that time.
I want to be involved in people's health through the power of architecture
Y.N. 1st year, School of Environment and Society
Ten years ago, I dreamed of being a Music teacher or a museum curator. I have always aspired to work in fields related to art and people!
In ten years, I want to become an architect who contributes to people's health. In high school, I became aware of the issue of regional healthcare disparities and dreamed of creating a society where anyone, anywhere, can lead a healthy life. I am interested in creating environments through architecture that provide both physical safety and mental enrichment, such as disaster-resistant buildings that consider regional climate and disaster risks and spaces that provide tranquility through the fusion of music and art. In the future, I want to be inspired by research in other fields as I achieve my dream.
