This newsletter is posted on the Science Tokyo website and on Slack around the first week of every month, providing updated information on academic affairs useful for all current Science Tokyo students.
[Academy of Energy and Informatics]
<1. Selection for Financial Support for Academic Year 2027>
- Selection Period
Fall semester, AY2026
- Eligible Students
Doctoral students who are enrolled in the graduate school at the time of selection and who will belong to the Energy Science and Informatics Course as of April 2027
- Selection Method (Tentative)
Document screening and evaluation through "Energy innovation co-creative project"
- Document Screening Criteria
Document screening will be conducted based on the status of credits earned for [the credits indicated under Requirements 1-3 on page 7 of the Study Guide for Academy of Energy and Informatics.]
Please note that the restricted electives in the "InfoSyEnergy Social Design courses" listed under "Completion Requirements 3" are scheduled to be discontinued this academic year.
Therefore, students are strongly encouraged to complete these credits within the current academic year.
<2. For Adult students>
For working, used to work students who belong to Science Tokyo's graduate programs of all graduate schools (master's degree program, professional master's degree program, and doctoral degree program), Academy of Energy and Informatics will recruit and select students for registration as "Associate-member students" from August 2026.
About Associate-member students' system:
This program is designed to enable adult students to acquire the latest energy and information knowledge, improve their own skills, and relearn as members of society through participation in events, etc. organized by the InfoSyEnergy Research and Education Consortium and Academy of Energy and Informatics as associate-member students in the Academy of Energy and Informatics. This will enable us to widely develop human resources in energy and informatics fields, thereby contributing to the building of a sustainable energy society.
Targets:
- Adult students (Working/used to work students) in the graduate programs of all Science Tokyo's graduate schools
*An Adult student is a student who falls into one of the following categories.
(1) Those who are currently be employed
(those who are currently working at a job that earns salary, wages, remuneration or other ordinary income).
(2) Those who have already retired from a job that earns salary, wages, remuneration, or other ordinary income.
(3) Housewives and Househusbands

1. [Open to all students] Entrepreneurship Courses "(Master's/Doctoral) Professional and Value Creation A/C" Individual Class Participation
*Please note: This course is conducted in Japanese. However, questions in English are welcome during guest speaker sessions.
In this course, we invite 4 guest speakers who are actively "creating and implementing new value" in society. They will share their backgrounds, current organizational challenges, and personal insights. Students will have the opportunity to connect with the guest speakers on a deeper level and engage with them directly.
All students are welcome to apply, even if they are not enrolled in the course. You may choose to participate in just a single class from the list below. We highly recommend attending the "preliminary information-sharing" session held before each guest lecture. In these sessions, student coordinators will share overviews of the speaker's organization and details about pre-assignments.

2. [Open to all students] Entrepreneurship Courses (Leadership and Value Creation) Workshops
Regardless of grade level or field of research, any student* may enroll in entrepreneurship courses that consist of a combination of various workshops to earn credits, or apply to join in individual workshops. The following is information on workshops to be offered in 1-2Q.
*Course registration is not available to students in the medical & dental fields, but those students are also welcome to participate in individual workshops. (Credits and points will not be granted in that case.)

-Outline: This peer-teaching workshop is proposed and led by students in Academy for Leadership. This class uniquely combines reflective activities and skill-building exercises in an interactive format, allowing participants to dive deep into understanding themselves and enhancing their interpersonal skills. Students may participate in a single class out of the above.

-Outline: This peer-teaching workshop is proposed and led by students in Academy for Leadership. This class will provide the opportunity to (1) overcome the fear of public speaking and build confidence in delivering arguments, (2) develop logical structuring skills and persuasive argumentation, and (3) improve clarity and effectiveness in communication. Students may participate in a single class out of the above.

-Outline: This student-led peer-teaching program uses games and lectures to cultivate logical thinking and persuasive skills. The goal is to practically develop the essential communication skills needed for researchers. To achieve this objective, workshops will be conducted in a presentation format at Ookayama and in a debate format at Yokohama. Students may participate in a single class out of the above.

-Outline: The Enneagram is a diagnostic test to help you learn about yourself and explore what you want to achieve in life. It divides a person's innate temperament into nine personality types and illustrates the potential and essential traits each possesses. These characteristics include how we see the world, internal motivations, thoughts and feelings, behavior patterns, strengths, challenges, how we relate to others, work styles, etc. By knowing these, we can better understand how we and others are.

-Outline: This workshop is an orientation to leadership fundamentals, covering team building, self-awareness, idea generation, consensus building, and communication. Participants will explore their own leadership styles though discussions with people of various ages and fields.

-Outline: This workshop will offer an opportunity to experience negotiation through role-plays, and learn the concepts necessary for consensus-building.

-Outline: Through the creation of art (abstract paintings) based on a theme and appreciation of others' works, students will improve their "creative thinking skills" and "creative communication skills" and acquire the basic skills to creatively carve out their own future while collaborating with a diverse range of others.

-Outline: This course helps you develop meta-skills for understanding the structure of relationships and facilitation skills from a third-party perspective, while protecting yourself and remaining calm without being overwhelmed by emotions.

-Outline: By using the scenario planning method, which is not about predicting the future but about envisioning multiple possibilities and expanding our thinking, participants will experience creating various scenarios and enhancing their adaptability to change, to connect those experiences to present actions.

-Outline: By experiencing the basics of Design Thinking through its five distinctive steps: empathy, problem definition, creation (conceptualization), prototyping, and testing, participants will experience and practice the concepts of Creative Confidence and User Centricity.

-Course description: In this class, students will learn how to establish better relationships through discussions with people whose opinions and stances differ on complicated issues, deepen understanding about diverse ways of thinking and learn necessary communication techniques, attitudes, and expressions in English. Students will read from books on creative conflict facilitation and practice new skills using challenging topics they select. This is a HyFlex course offered simultaneously in both in-person and online formats. GA0D can be obtained.
