Keishiro Hombo, a 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering student, has won the singles title at the 65th National and Public Universities Table Tennis Tournament, held from August 18 to 22 in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

Hombo’s win is the first of its kind for a Science Tokyo student, and the first win in 13 years for a student from a Kanto region university.

Comments from Keishiro Hombo

I am delighted to have won the championship at this tournament. In February 2025, I had the opportunity to travel to Germany for roughly two weeks as part of the National and Public Universities Table Tennis Federation's overseas training program. I interacted with members from other universities, local youth team players, and coaches there, gaining tremendous inspiration. In Düsseldorf, I attended a match of the Bundesliga, Germany's professional league, and learning about the world's highest level of table tennis up close was an invaluable experience.

At the national tournament, my teammates and friends from other universities traveled with me to cheer me on. Their support kept me going until the very end. I never imagined I could win, but believing in myself and focusing on every single ball led to this result.

I hope the Science Tokyo Table Tennis Club can use this experience as motivation to continue striving even harder as a team. We sincerely appreciate your continued support.
