Science Tokyo declaration of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)
In line with its mission of "advancing science and human wellbeing to create value for and with society," Science Tokyo will promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in a fair and impartial environment of shared learning and growth where community members value and respect different perspectives and backgrounds, expand the possibilities of science, and work together to build a better, brighter future.
DEI-related measures across Science Tokyo
The DEI Section within the Office of Communications and DEI heads the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion across Science Tokyo. The section comprehensively develops various DEI-related initiatives and measures with the aim of boosting creativity and diversity in the Institute’s education, research, and other activities, forging new knowledge and value, and sharing these results with the broader community. The section’s efforts include but are not limited to work-life balance support for faculty, staff, and students, support for the development of female leaders and the advancement of women, support for non-Japanese members of the Science Tokyo community, and support for persons with disabilities.
Activities include
- Information sharing on leave of absence and other systems related to childcare, family care, and other forms of care
- Operation of on-campus day care centers
- Babysitting support service
- Information sharing on activities of female students and faculty members
- Attitude surveys on careers and other topics
- Advancement of professional promotion of female faculty members
- Maintenance of dedicated on-campus rest and prayer spaces
- Dissemination of campus accessibility maps
- Development of indicators to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion, and evaluation of the results of such efforts
- Development of Institute-wide DEI action plans and guidelines
- DEI-related seminars and training sessions
On-campus day care centers
Our university has established three day care centers. These facilities play a crucial role as an international research hub for our institution, while also contributing to alleviating the issue of waiting lists for children in the local community.
