Yujiro TANAKA
President and Chief Academic Officer
Yujiro Tanaka is president and chief academic officer at Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo).
Tanaka's career began in 1980 at Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) Medical Hospital. He subsequently worked at Musashino Red Cross Hospital, Kanto Teishin Hospital, Nakano General Hospital, and the Alcohol Research and Treatment Center at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He returned to TMDU Medical Hospital in 1989.
In 2001, Tanaka was appointed as a professor in the Department of General Medicine. His roles included director of the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education, director of the Center for Medical Welfare Support, and assistant to the director. In 2006, he was named a professor of medical education research and development and later served as executive advisor to the president.
Tanaka held various leadership positions at TMDU, including director of the Center for Interprofessional Education, vice dean, and executive director. In 2020, he became president of TMDU. While at this position, in 2024 he was awarded the Japan Society for Medical Education’s Ushiba Prize for his significant contributions to the improvement of medical education in Japan.
