Noriyuki WAKABAYASHI
Executive Vice President for Education
Noriyuki Wakabayashi is executive vice president for education at Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo).
Wakabayashi graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) in 1988 and earned his PhD degree in 1992. He completed his dental residency in prosthodontics at the university's Dental Hospital from 1992 to 1994 and served as an assistant professor there until 2000.
Wakabayashi was a visiting professor at the Center for Dental Biomaterials, College of Dentistry, University of Florida from 1997 to 1998, and then worked as an assistant professor in oral and maxillofacial rehabilitation at TMDU until 2006. He continued his career as an associate professor at Iwate Medical University and then returned to his alma mater. Since 2013, he has been the leading professor in the Department of Advanced Prosthodontics.
As a clinical dental scientist, Wakabayashi is the author of more than 200 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and the supervisor of more than 80 PhD students. As a specialist in prosthodontics certified by the Japanese Dental Specialty Board, he has been involved in domestic and international boards of directors including the Review Committee for the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the Japan Prosthodontic Society, and external review committees of international universities and institutions.
Wakabayashi has held significant leadership roles, including special advisor to the president of TMDU and head of the prosthodontics section of the Dental Hospital. He served as director of the Dental Hospital from 2017 to 2020, playing a central role in the establishment of the Center for Advanced Interdisciplinary Dentistry, and later in the merger of TMDU’s Medical and Dental Hospitals in 2021.
From 2020 until his current position, Wakabayashi served as executive director and vice president for education at TMDU.
