Motoko Yamada is executive vice president for infrastructure and administration at Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo). She also serves concurrently as executive vice president for environmental health and safety.
Yamada has made significant contributions to Japan's education and cultural policies through her extensive administrative experience and expertise over the years. She began her career in 2011 as an assistant manager in the Policy Division, Minister’s Secretariat, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and then served as a taxation specialist in the same ministry.
In 2013, Yamada contributed to educational policy planning and development as a senior research officer at the National Institute for Educational Policy Research. In 2014, she played a crucial role as a Cabinet Office official in the Gender Equality Bureau. She continued to share her expertise as a specialist in the International Affairs Division of MEXT and later at the Agency for Cultural Affairs, where she contributed to cultural policy planning as a planning and coordination officer.
From 2019 to 2021, Yamada managed financial matters as deputy director and budget planning officer at MEXT. She was also counselor for arts and culture at the Agency for Cultural Affairs from 2021 to 2023.
Before her current positions, Yamada was executive director and executive vice president at Tokyo Medical and Dental University. Her rich experience and knowledge provide Science Tokyo with invaluable leadership in education, culture, and safety management.
