Message from Students
Extensive basic medical studies and clinical experience for the future
Kento Hashimoto (Undergraduate Degree Program, 6th year, 2024)
Faculty of Dentistry, School of Dentistry
In the School of Dentistry, first-year students study liberal arts with students from other schools, and specialized education begins in the second year. Specialized education begins with lectures and practical training in anatomy, histology, and physiology. By studying not only the field of oral medicine, but also internal medicine, surgery, and other areas, students acquire medical knowledge that enables them to think comprehensively about the entire body. Clinical dentistry then begins, where students learn clinical dental treatments and techniques using artificial teeth and actual teeth. In the second semester of the fifth year, the comprehensive clinical practice begins in the student clinic. Students take the initiative in performing a series of procedures such as examination, diagnosis, and treatment while actually communicating with patients. Every day is a great learning experience, as we are made aware of the difficulties of treatment that we could not have realized from just practicing on models. The opportunity to experience the dental profession while still a student is extremely valuable, and I believe it is the greatest advantage of studying dentistry at our university. The students are able to discuss any concerns they have with their supervisors and practice using models simulating actual treatment in the skills lab, which provides an environment in which they can go into clinical practice with peace of mind.
Becoming a dental hygienist who can play an active role in a wide variety of settings
Aya Choshi (Undergraduate Degree Program, 4th year, 2024)
Faculty of Dentistry, School of Oral Health Care Sciences, Course for Oral Health Care Sciences
The number of students in our course is small (about 20 students per grade), which allows students to receive generous guidance and support from teachers.
In addition to classroom lectures, students receive clinical training at the university's hospital and off-campus clinical practice. Clinical practice includes opportunities to visit not only hospitals, but also dental clinics, visiting dental clinics, and administrative settings such as public health centers. Through these, students can gain specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we can develop planning and practical skills by visiting kindergartens and elementary schools to provide health education. Students also have the opportunity to study not only dentistry, but also medicine and welfare-related subjects, and together with joint training with other schools and courses, they can deepen their understanding of multiple professions and the importance of cooperation, and learn about oral health from a multifaceted perspective. An overseas program is also available during long vacations, allowing students to learn about dentistry and oral health extensively around the world.
Thus, at our university, students can not only acquire knowledge and skills, but also aim to become dental hygienists who will be active not only in Japan but also in the world, demonstrating their abilities in team medicine in the future.
High level education in a friendly atmosphere
Akira Takahashi (Undergraduate Degree Program, 4th year, 2024)
Faculty of Dentistry, School of Oral Health Care Sciences, Course for Oral Health Engineering
In this course, excellent environment and guidance from professionals in various fields allow students to acquire high-level and wide-ranging knowledge. There are very few universities in Japan that train dental technicians, and this course offers a very valuable environment. In addition to traditional techniques mainly performed by hand, from the third year, students can receive practical training using the latest technologies such as CAD/CAM and 3D printers. Additionally, in the first year, there is a lot of interaction with other schools, which allows students to expand their knowledge about team medicine. Furthermore, international exchange is also very active, with exchange programs with overseas universities held every year and overseas training programs held in the third year.
The number of students per grade level is small at around 10 students, which allows each student to receive thorough guidance from the teachers. The small class size allows for a close relationship with teachers, and the students get along very well with each other, creating a comfortable atmosphere. You will meet the best friends and teachers.
